“This biblical passage reminds us of how our Saviour is intimately involved in the origins and future of all of creation. With this truth in mind, MWC is inviting our members to take part in a new worship celebration this September,” says Juliana Morillo, Creation Care Working Group, Latin America representative.
MWC members look forward to worship resource packages for Anabaptist World Fellowship Sunday, YABs Fellowship Week, Peace Sunday. In 2026, worship resources are available for Creation Sunday, a new celebration added to the calendar.
“Creation Sunday is an opportunity to proclaim an important part of our faith. This day is not only about what God has done in the past but also about what God is doing now,” says César García, MWC general secretary. “In Christ, our creator God sustains the universe and us as part of it. Taking care of creation is a key point in our witness and mission.”
The Creation Care Working Group has curated resources to assist our churches in observing this date.
“MWC would love to hear how you observed this first-ever Creation Sunday. Please tell us how you used these prayers, activities, testimonies or teaching resources in your congregation. Let us know if there is anything you would like to see differently,” says Doug Graber Neufeld, Creation Care Working Group chair.
“As with all our worship events, although we designate a specific date, we invite our members to use our materials at any date that is convenient for them,” says Janet Plenert, MWC director of communion building.
Both Peace Sunday and Creation Sunday stretch beyond the Anabaptist family.
Since 2006, MWC has declared Peace Sunday to fall on the date closest to 21 September, international day of peace.
“Living out peace – a key part of our identity as Anabaptists – requires resourcing, practice and celebration,” says Andrew Suderman, Peace Commission secretary. “We pray that our materials for both Peace Sunday and Creation Sunday aid in that pursuit, whether congregations use them in September, November or at any other time of year.”
Creation Sunday joins Anabaptists with Christians around the world in turning our attention on God as loving creator.
For many years, Christians have observed a Season of Creation during September. Stemming from an Orthodox day of beginnings observed on 1 September, it also connects with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year that falls in September or early October.
In 2025, at an ecumenical conference in Assisi, Italy, church representatives agreed to begin to implement this feast day on the Christian calendar. Creation Sunday, the first Sunday of September is the result.
MWC’s Creation Care Working Group has encouraged congregations to join the celebration of Creation Sunday.
