Our May 2026 Prayer Network newsletter contained a prayer request for Nepal that contained inaccurate information.
We apologize for sharing this incorrect news.
Please continue to pray for our member church in Nepal as they live out the gospel as a minority.
The new government has begun a campaign of clearing informal settlers from flood-prone government land like riverbanks and roadsides. However, this displaces low-income people, often without due process. Homes, schools and places of worship of some thousand Kathmandu residents were destroyed. Three families of BIC Nepal church members are affected by this campaign and more than 50 families in Eastern Nepal fear displacement should the campaign extend beyond Kathmandu.
Please pray for wisdom for this new government to create affordable housing that is more ecologically sustainable.

Please pray for the BIC Church Canada Lead Team as they prepare for a leadership transition. Executive Director Charlie Mashinter retires in June. Pray for Todd Lester and Melanie Wigg as they lead in tandem.

In late April this year, heavy rains pounded the province of Benguela and caused floodings in many neighbourhoods, destroying hundreds of homes, public facilities, and forcing residents to seek refuge on rooftops or higher grounds. More than 50,000 people have been displaced and there have been at least 45 fatalities. A group of young interdenominational Christians has been providing urgent supplies to the victims. Awaiting confirmation if any of our churches are affected.

Pray for MWC Commissions (Faith & Life, Peace, Deacons and Mission) which will meet in the Netherlands in May, prior to CMERK2026. May their time together build relationships within the groups and advance their collective mission to resource the global Anabaptist family. May they also have a blessed time gathering with members of European Mennonite churches at CMERK*.
*CMERK, a regional gathering for all European Mennonite churches is a combination of two names for the event: Conférence Mennonite Européenne (French) + Mennonitische Europäische Regionale Konferenz (German).

Humanitarian situation is worsening due to fuel shortages that started when the government of the USA took measures to block oil supplies from entering the Caribbean nation nearly a month ago. Continued shortages will harm healthcare, water services and food distribution, deepening the humanitarian crisis and causing suffering especially for the most vulnerable. Pray that much needed supplies will reach the island nation quickly. Pray that amid the stress of shortages added to rebuilding after November’s hurricane and more severe weather, people would take care of each other, sharing resources like the boy with five loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:19) so that everyone has enough.

Pray for stability and growth of 15 new Mennonite congregations established in Kenya’s hardship area of Turkana. This region faces chronic water scarcity, food insecurity and malnutrition especially among children, extreme poverty, with vast majority of people living below the poverty line and high maternal/child mortality. All these are largely caused by recurring droughts exacerbated by climate change, degrading ecosystems and unsustainable agricultural practices. Access to healthcare and education is poor due to vast distances, nomadic lifestyles, cultural beliefs and limited infrastructure, while resource conflicts and governance challenges further compound these issues, forcing displacement and increasing vulnerability.

Pray for the leadership in Colombia, as well as the workers in the churches they are planting. Although there are no church buildings, there is a hunger for the Word of God. May the Lord give us strength for the road ahead, quench our thirst and provide us with shade during hot arduous days.

Pray for world leaders to demand violent attacks in the Middle East to cease. The US-Israeli strikes on Iran which started on 28 February 2026 and Iran’s retaliatory actions have killed hundreds of people not just in Iran, but also in neighbouring countries. May people around the world be in solidarity with those who are displaced, mourning, marginalized and victimized.
