MKC calls for prayer from our global Anabaptist family

Beloved sisters and brothers

Mennonite World Conference calls for prayer for our member church Meserete Kristos Church (MKC) facing religious persecution in Ethiopia from extremist factions.

The latest incident to affect ministers of the gospel in MKC occurred 15 May 2025. An extremist group in the region attacked an evangelist working in the West Hararghe. He has since died from his wounds.

“Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord… they will rest from their labours, for their deeds follow them.”
—Revelation 14:13

MKC urgently calls upon partners, friends and the Body of Christ to join us in prayer for the following:

  • Strength, peace, and comfort for the wife and two young children of Evangelist Ebrahim, that the Lord God would be their refuge.
  • Healing and restoration for others who bear wounds from violence for practicing their faith;
  • Divine protection over evangelists and believers serving in high-risk areas as they witness to the gospel of peace;
  • Justice and lasting peace to be established in the region.

May the steadfast example of Evangelist Ebrahim inspire us to press on in the work to which he laid down his life.

May the Lord, our Healer, Protector and Sustainer, draw near and uphold us with mercy and power.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer, compassion and solidarity.

With deep concern and unwavering faith,

The Meserete Kristos Church (MKC) Leadership Team

Please join as Anabaptist brothers and sisters in lifting up MKC in prayer.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
In the name of Jesus, Prince of Peace, amen.
