Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Greetings from the Creation Care Working Group (CCWG) of Mennonite World Conference!
With hearts of gratitude for the beauty and sustenance that God gives us through creation, we are excited to announce Creation Sunday on 6 September 2026.
Christians enter into the story of our faith by celebrating central convictions on certain days, like the birth of Jesus at Christmas, the resurrection of Jesus at Easter, and the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. MWC will be inviting member churches to join together every year on the first Sunday of September, to celebrate God’s act of creation on Creation Sunday.
We encourage your church to consider joining other Anabaptist churches – along with other Christian traditions* – in celebrating God’s act of creation this Sunday, and to reflect on how we can be faithful stewards of all parts of this rich, diverse natural world.
Accompanying this letter, you will find a web link to worship resources to use in celebrating Creation Sunday on 6 September or at any time that suits your worship calendar. CCWG has selected a set of resources that we find are particularly helpful in faithfully following Christ in care for creation, and that align with our Anabaptist values. We invite you to use those resources which best resonate.
September also represents the start of the “Season of Creation”, a month-long period (1 September–4 October) for Christians to pray and act together for creation. This
year’s theme is “Living Water”, based on Ezekial 47:1-12. We invite you to consider how this passage portrays God’s life-giving water flowing from the temple of God to restore barren land and renew creation so that the earth and humans can flourish together.
Creation Sunday joins Peace Sunday, Anabaptist World Fellowship Sunday and YAB Fellowship Week as a time the Anabaptist global family celebrates around a common theme in worship together.

How does Creation Sunday join with other Christian traditions in celebrating the witness of God’s creation?
Creation Sunday (Feast of Creation) has been added to the Christian calendar through ecumenical consensus. It becomes an annual celebration like Pentecost and Epiphany.
*Denominational bodies who are collaborating on the Creation Sunday (Feast of Creation) are the Anglican Communion, Baptist World Alliance, Coptic Orthodox Church, Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, The Lutheran World Federation, Mennonite World Conference, Pentecost World Fellowship (Creation Care Taskforce), The Salvation Army, World Communion of Reformed Churches, World Evangelical Alliance, World Methodist Council.
