In Memoriam: Ambrocio Ladiana Porcincula (1939-2021)

Ambrocio Porcincula, general council delegate to Mennonite World Conference, died 8 August 2021 at 82 after suffering a stroke. He served MWC as a representative of Asia on the Executive Committee in the late 1990s and represented Integrated Mennonite Churches, Inc., in the Philippines on the General Council for several terms.

After attending a service at Lumban Mennonite Bible Church in 1986, Ambrocio Porcincula diverted from his dream of becoming mayor to becoming a pastor instead. He first took a leadership position in Integrated Mennonite Church in 1991 and continued to serve the national church in different roles thereafter. He was installed as bishop of the Integrated Mennonite Churches, Inc. in 2000.

Remembered for his stirring address on Asia Day of the 2003 MWC Assembly in Zimbabwe, Ambrocio Porcincula had a Pentecostal-style exuberance. He lavished special attention on the youth fellowship in his local area.

He is survived by his wife Silvina and son, daughter-in-law, and four grand children.

“We rejoice in faith that he is now singing Hallelujah and dancing and jumping nonstop in the presence of the Lord, as he has been a good and faithful servant until his last breath,” says Eladio R Mondez, deputy bishop moderator, IMC, Inc.

“We will miss Ambrocio’s joyful attitude and prophetic voice. His ministry blessed many lives in our global communion,” says César García, MWC general secretary.
