Passion for service: meet Shirley Redekop

“Even with all our diversity of culture, language and practice, our Anabaptist theology draws us together as a family of faith through Christ’s love and sacrifice for us,” says Shirley Redekop.

She begins a half-time role as MWC chief development officer 23 March 2020.

An American living in Canada, she brings a range of competencies in the field of development as she joins the team working from the Kitchener office in Ontario, Canada.

Shirley Redekop has served several roles in her local congregation, the national church in Canada, and with several Mennonite organizations.

“Our theology of service, peace and shared convictions is what our broken world needs at this time,” she says.

Shirley Redekop has worked with people from many cultures including Laotian, Cambodian, Vietnamese in a camp in Thailand, diverse refugees in Canada, and Mennonites from Mexico. She has been involved in tours to Benin, Tanzania, Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, India – and to MWC Assemblies in Asuncion, Paraguay, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA.

“I am very pleased to have Shirley join us in this adventure of building a global community according to God’s call for MWC,” says César García, MWC general secretary. “We extend thanks to Arli Klassen who completes her work in this role and will continue to serve the global church as regional representatives coordinator.”
