A pastoral letter for the healing of Haiti

Beloved sisters and brothers:

Let us join in prayer for peace and stability in Haiti! The island nation is reeling after the assassination of its president in July, a devastating earthquake in August, and ongoing effects from the coronavirus pandemic. Government corruption and uncontained gang violence have added to the suffering. Poverty and hunger are widespread.

Seventeen members of a missionary group, including five children, were abducted in Haiti on 16 October 2021. Let us pray for persons involved in any way with the abduction. For all in Haiti who are trapped by poverty, violence or kidnapping, let us join the psalmist’s petition:

Be pleased, O God, to deliver me
O Lord, make haste to help me!...
I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay! (Psalm 70:1, 5).

Lord, listen to your children praying!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
