Souvent, on se souvient des rassemblements de la Conf\u00e9rence Mennonite Mondiale comme des festivals de mots : histoires, chants, sermons et conversations. Mais qu\u2019en est-il de l\u2019art visuel?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab On observe un int\u00e9r\u00eat grandissant pour l\u2019art dans le monde anabaptiste \u00bb dit Geoff Isley, coordonnateur de la planification des arts visuels \u00e0 PA 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suivant la tradition des derniers rassemblements de la CMM, le 16e<\/sup> Rassemblement a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 six expositions organis\u00e9es autour de th\u00e8mes : en passant des tableaux \u00ab On the Road to Freedom \u00bb de Ray Dirks sur la souffrance de la migration mennonite de Russie \u00e0 une s\u00e9rie de tableaux sur les stations de la croix, utilis\u00e9s dans la liturgie de Community Mennonite Church \u00e0 Lancaster en Pennsylvanie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, le 16e<\/sup> Rassemblement a ajout\u00e9 une exposition concours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Avec 30 tableaux et sculptures, la collection pr\u00e9sentait une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de disciplines et de styles, de l\u2019art figuratif \u00e0 des formes plus abstraites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Geoff Isley ne voulait pas que l\u2019exposition soit li\u00e9e \u00e0 un th\u00e8me, \u00e0 un style ou \u00e0 un genre particulier. Il voulait plut\u00f4t que les pi\u00e8ces refl\u00e8tent un grand \u00e9ventail d\u2019individualit\u00e9s et d\u2019exp\u00e9riences spirituelles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Un an avant le Rassemblement, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de planification des arts visuels a invit\u00e9 les \u00e9glises \u00e0 encourager leurs artistes \u00e0 participer et \u00e0 soumettre des images num\u00e9riques de leur art. Quelque 30 \u0153uvres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9es par un jur\u00e9, Theodor Prescott, professeur d\u2019art au Messiah College qui ne faisait pas partie de l\u2019\u00e9quipe de planification des arts visuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chaque pi\u00e8ce \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e avec une d\u00e9claration de l\u2019artiste qui expliquait l\u2019\u0153uvre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geoff Isley est heureux de l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat manifest\u00e9 par les visiteurs du rassemblement, mais d\u00e9\u00e7u qu\u2019il y ait eu une seule proposition de l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique du Nord : une peinture abstraite de Lucy Riquelme du Chili, intitul\u00e9e \u00ab En marche avec J\u00e9sus \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
La logistique du transport transfrontalier des \u0153uvres peut \u00eatre un facteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
L\u2019exposition concours et les autres expositions (pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans la mezzanine au-dessus de l\u2019aire du Village de l\u2019\u00c9glise Mondiale) ont donn\u00e9 l\u2019occasion aux participants du Rassemblement de communiquer et d\u2019apprendre d\u2019une mani\u00e8re plus profonde qu\u2019avec des mots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab Nous voulions que les personnes de l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique du Nord sachent que la communication visuelle est aussi importante \u00bb, dit Geoff Isley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
