{"id":8223,"date":"2024-07-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/we-know-god-better-through-the-global-family\/"},"modified":"2024-12-06T02:40:51","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T02:40:51","slug":"we-know-god-better-through-global-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/we-know-god-better-through-global-family\/","title":{"rendered":"We know God better through the global family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThrough Mennonite World Conference (MWC), I learn what it means to be a global citizen, and that the church is much bigger than my own local congregation,\u201d says Agus Mayanto (Southeast Asia). \u201cWe are all brothers and sisters and not strangers anymore.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Mennonite pastor from Indonesia, Agus Mayanto, is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/regional-representatives\">MWC\u2019s regional representatives<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This team of 13 experienced church leaders interpret Mennonite World Conference to the national church leaders and congregations in their regions. And they advocate for the concerns and perspectives of their region to the MWC family.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Until the end of June 2024, the regional representatives were led by coordinator Arli Klassen.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always loved the church and been fascinated by the church in different places around the world,\u201d she says.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Her interest was piqued by attending MWC meetings while in another role: \u201cHow does the Anabaptist church work on the global level and what does it do?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got more enthusiastic about MWC with each meeting I went to,\u201d Arli Klassen says. She leapt at the chance to serve and work with the global church.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jumanne Magiri Mafwiri, regional representative for East Africa, was similarly compelled by how MWC gives exposure to a bigger world. \u201cAs a child, I thought my tribe was the best one everywhere,\u201d he says. \u201cNow, I know that there are many different peoples with different cultures and God has made all of us.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For Siaka Traor\u00e9, (Central West Africa), this diversity opens his mind to be more missional. \u201cI\u2019m inspired to see the Word of God widely \u2013 diversity belongs to God; we are all different but have similar needs.\u201d&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"375\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/202404irmasulistyorinip1090560.jpg\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 250px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 250\/375;float:right\" width=\"250\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\"><\/p>\n<p>For Cynthia Peacock (South Asia), MWC is crucial for \u201cconnecting outside my own country, being part of a world communion;\u201d For Danisa Ndlovu (Southern Africa), it\u2019s \u201cbuilding a family,\u201d and for Agus Mayanto (Southeast Asia), turning strangers into brothers and sisters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learn what it means to be a global citizen, and that the church is much bigger than my own local congregation,\u201d he says.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes I feel alone,\u201d says Freddy Barr\u00f3n (Latin America \u2013 Southern Cone), \u201cbut we have sisters and brothers all over the world.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of many, we are one people, one in the Lord,\u201d says George Broughton (Caribbean).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here as representatives of the diversity around the world,\u201d says Jos\u00e9 Arrais (Europe). \u201cIn our polarized world we are called to be together and include each other.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is only \u2018with all the saints\u2019 that we can know and experience the love of God more deeply and more richly,\u201d says Arli Klassen. \u201cThrough our differences, we know God better (Ephesians 3).\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a href=\"\/node\/26\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"donate now\" height=\"48\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/donate_now_button-02.png\" width=\"150\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 150px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 150\/48;\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThrough Mennonite World Conference (MWC), I learn what it means to be a global citizen, and that the church is much bigger than my own local congregation,\u201d says Agus Mayanto (Southeast Asia). \u201cWe are all brothers and sisters and not strangers anymore.\u201d&nbsp; A Mennonite pastor from Indonesia, Agus Mayanto, is one of MWC\u2019s regional representatives.&nbsp;&nbsp; [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11411,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"network":[],"eventcategory":[],"class_list":["post-8223","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
