{"id":8206,"date":"2024-05-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/a-pastoral-letter-for-anabaptist-mennonites-in-kenya\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T19:20:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T19:20:54","slug":"pastoral-letter-anabaptist-mennonites-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/pastoral-letter-anabaptist-mennonites-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"A pastoral letter for Anabaptists in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beloved sisters and brothers:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our brothers and sisters in&nbsp;<strong>Kenya Mennonite Church<\/strong>&nbsp;have asked for prayer that the continuous rain in Kisumu County would subside.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks of heavier than usual rains for the season have wreaked havoc in many parts of East Africa, a region vulnerable to climate disasters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The existing flooding was made worse on Sunday morning, 5 May 2024, when the rain broke the banks of the nearby River Nyando. Major roads and the bridge connecting Kisumu to Nairobi and other neighbouring cities was submerged. This has considerably slowed down rescue and aid efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Businesses and schools were forced to close. Some 600 people are still trapped in their homes.
