{"id":6786,"date":"2019-01-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/a-transformed-spirit-of-answered-prayer\/"},"modified":"2024-12-09T17:15:22","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T17:15:22","slug":"transformed-spirit-answered-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/transformed-spirit-answered-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"A transformed spirit of answered prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>At Renewal 2027&nbsp; \u2013 The Holy Spirit Transforming Us in Kisumu, Kenya,&nbsp;21 April&nbsp;2018,several people shared a testimony of experiencing the Spirit\u2019s work changing people in the church. The columns in this section have been adapted from their presentations.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). That is what&nbsp;my&nbsp;church, Brethren&nbsp;In&nbsp;Christ&nbsp;(BICC)&nbsp;in Zimbabwe teaches. We cannot see the Holy Spirit with our eyes, but we see God in action through his Spirit, and the outcome is always astounding and&nbsp;awe-inspiring.<\/p>\n<p>When I was a little girl, we were taught about God the Father, and Jesus, the great friend of children, and our Saviour. The Holy Spir<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">it was hardly mentioned<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;although we sang songs that espoused the power of this comforter and teacher.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">We&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">went to church to worship God with other believers<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">through<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">prayer, Bible study\/Sunday school, hymns (praise and worship), offering and the sermon<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">For many years, our churches taught the Bible well, but our actions in worship, though proper in form,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">did not match the ethics, particularly in giving of tithes and offering as well as any other giving<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Then came teaching<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;about the person of the Holy Spirit. I&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">began to<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;witness attitudes changing.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Wh<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">en a church allows the Holy Spirit\u2019s transforming power, we see the fruits of love, joy, peace,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">kindness,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">longsuffering,<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22, 23).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Prayer time&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">has<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">becom<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">e<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;a time of truly communing with God.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">During praise and worship, the team&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">is<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">genuinely<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;worship<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">p<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">ing God<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">able to le<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">a<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">d&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">the rest of the congregants&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">in<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">to the presence of God. The lyrics of the hymns&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">take<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;on new meaning.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Giving is improving.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">orshippers are&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">no longer<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;giving tithes and offerings because of obedience of the law; but out of love<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;joy and grateful hearts. Giving generously as did the Macedonians in&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">2<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;Corinthians 8 does not come easy with most people, but we keep witnessing transformation that we can only put to the work of the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">One example of the Holy Spirit at work happened in 2011, during the&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">B<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">ICC<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">w<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">omen\u2019s&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">onference at&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Mtshabezi<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;Mission.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">On the last day of the&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">onference<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">evangelist&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Silibaziso<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Nhliziyo<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">based her message on Genesis 9:17\u201326.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">This beloved woman of deep faith challenged<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;the church to care for our spiritual parents, our pastors and leaders who are exposed by lack and want<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">She came closer home<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;\u201cMam Bishop Ndlovu visits the sick and bereaved and does a lot of church errands on foot, or by commuter taxis<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Yet we&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">live in comfort and&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">drive&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">good cars<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">. Is tha<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;right? Today, we are going to give, so that our Mam Bishop can buy a car.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Give, women: s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">ow a seed to ease Mam Bishop\u2019s life as she serves God.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">We are going to give $5,000 to buy the vehicle. What you do for her, you are doing for God.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">That seemed like a tall order for many who usually gave the barest minimum.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Surprise of surprises, women brought forward pledges that surpassed the amount stated. We all agreed the Holy Spirit&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">was&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">at work.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">o date, the&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">10-seater&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">vehicle&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">we purchased&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">is&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">used by the Bishop\u2019s wife and other&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">church&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">ladies as they go about the business of women\u2019s ministry.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Silibaziso<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;continued:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;\u201cI feel in my spirit that there are women who are having a problem conceiving. Your hearts are crying for children. Some of you are giving up. Never give up on God!\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Many women flocked to the front for prayers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Six years later<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">, during the annual&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">B<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">ICC<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">w<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">omen\u2019s&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">o<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">nference,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Lovewyn<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;Mhlanga<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">, a gifted teacher and conference speaker, married to&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">a minister of the gospel at<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">BICC<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Lobengula<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;in Bulawayo<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">gave a personal testimony<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201cI met with my Jesus in a special way at&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Mtshabezi<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;[the 2011 women\u2019s conference]<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,\u201d she said<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">I was reluctant to go forward. I had had four miscarriages. Many prayers had been prayed for me before<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">but&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">my hope had been dashed many times.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">I reluctantly found myself walking to the front, tears rolling down my face. God touched me<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;as prayers were said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Soon after, I had a pregnancy that I nursed with joy and anxiety wrapped in one. After nine months<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;I went into hospital for a Caesarean-section birth. I heard my baby cry while I was still in theatre and I said, \u201a\u00c4\u00f2God, you are so good! You are faithful. You are Jehovah and you deserve all the worship!\u2019&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">As&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">you<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;sit here, there are things&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">you<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;believe God for. Believe that God will bring a breakthrough in your life<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,\u201d said Mhlanga.<\/span>&nbsp;<span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">I had my baby girl, Princess. I prayed for another baby, and God gave me a son, Prince Joshua.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Is the Holy Spirit in our midst transforming lives and situations<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">?<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;Yes,&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">he&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Spirit&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">is! The same Holy Spirit who brought missionaries who gave us the go<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">spel<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;that came with schools and hospitals is the same Spir<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">it&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">at work today<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;building the kingdom of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">\u201a\u00c4\u00eeBarbara&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">Nkala<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">&nbsp;is MWC regional&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-ZA\">representative for Southern Africa.
