When creation suffers, people suffer too, as part of creation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognizing our responsibility in this global challenge,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/creation-care-task-force\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"11442\">Creation Care Working Group<\/a>* of&nbsp;Mennonite World Conference has&nbsp;established&nbsp;a Creation Care Fund to&nbsp;play a small role in equipping MWC member churches to respond to&nbsp;our contemporary ecological crises.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;April 2026&nbsp;the grant is open for&nbsp;its second round of&nbsp;applications.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click here to fill out a short form explaining your idea for a creation care project. CCWG reviews these&nbsp;pre-applications, and&nbsp;then invites eligible projects to fill out a full application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/creation-care-task-force\/creation-care-grant\/\">MWC Creation Care Grant<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Creation Care grant&nbsp;prioritizes projects with the dual goals of&nbsp;taking care of God\u2019s creation, and inspiring&nbsp;other communities&nbsp;into&nbsp;action as stewards of creation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to&nbsp;the Global Church Sharing Fund grants, applications must be supported by the national MWC member&nbsp;church&nbsp;and the applicant must&nbsp;contribute toward the cost of the project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three&nbsp;projects have been approved in the first year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded projects for 2026 will be announced during the <a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/creation-care-task-force\/season-of-creation-prayers\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/creation-care-task-force\/season-of-creation-prayers\/\">Season of Creation<\/a> in September.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-soft-blue-background-color has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><em><sup>*At their meetings in March 2026, the Executive Committee approved a name change from \u201ctask force\u201d to \u201cworking group\u201d. This name&nbsp;change&nbsp;signals that this Creation Care-focused group is not a temporary concern but an ongoing&nbsp;part of MWC\u2019s structure.<\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/guided-spirit\/\">Guided by the Spirit&nbsp;<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trees for schools, skills for students&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"607\" height=\"444\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026-03-CCWG-grant-Malawi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-126859 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 607px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 607\/444;aspect-ratio:16\/9;object-fit:cover\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026-03-CCWG-grant-Malawi.jpg 607w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026-03-CCWG-grant-Malawi-300x219.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><sub>\u00a0Youth in Malawi are inspired by the reforestation project\u00a0and learning how to care for the trees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/sub><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Malawi, the Mennonite Brethren church is \u201cGreening Our Future\u201d through the&nbsp;UBALE&nbsp;tree planting and conservation initiative&nbsp;in&nbsp;Dzaleka&nbsp;refugee camp in Dowa&nbsp;which is home to&nbsp;more than 50\u202f000 asylum seekers from across the Great Lakes region and Horn of Africa.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project aims to plant 5\u202f000 native trees&nbsp;(including acacia, mahogany, and miombo species)&nbsp;in degraded landscapes in targeted communities.&nbsp;Trees are&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;cut down for firewood,&nbsp;shelter&nbsp;and survival needs.&nbsp;Loss of too many trees results in&nbsp;soil erosion, declining&nbsp;biodiversity&nbsp;and increased vulnerability to climate change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, 3\u202f600 trees have been planted.&nbsp;The church engages local community groups including youth groups and schools&nbsp;for training in&nbsp;planting and caring for the trees to ensure at least 80 percent survival rate.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn&nbsp;Colossians<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>1:16\u201317, we are reminded that all things were created through Christ and for Christ. The project backed by Kenya Mennonite Church involves&nbsp;the promotion of bee hives in Migori, a municipal centre&nbsp;not far from&nbsp;the Tanzanian border. The project aims to&nbsp;establish&nbsp;up to 400 beehives \u201cto enhance community livelihoods and promote environmental sustainability.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hives are intended to promote&nbsp;pollinators in the landscape&nbsp;while providing food (honey) and a&nbsp;source for&nbsp;income, especially for widows&nbsp;who need help with&nbsp;sustainable livelihoods.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project reflects biblical stewardship (Genesis 2:15) by caring for God\u2019s creation. It also embodies the call to love our neighbours (Matthew 22:39) through sustainable community development,\u201d says&nbsp;Francis Ojwang Selassie , project director.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the&nbsp;assistance&nbsp;of the grant, KMC was able to start 70 beehives, provide protective suits and smokers for those working on the hives, and training for local community leaders.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growing fruit for families&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Angola, Igreja Evangelica Menonita Em Angola (IEMA) received a grant to plant fruit trees using a rainwater capture and storage irrigation system in Mbanza S\u00e4o Paulo, Nambuangongo and Bengo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project aims to fight against desertification&nbsp;of the land&nbsp;and hunger&nbsp;in the people by growing food and providing livelihoods.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Involving some 20 people from local congregations in cultivation and tending, the impact of fruit can benefit as many as 200&nbsp;people.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are inspired by Ezekiel 36:8-1 as we care for the&nbsp;land, and&nbsp;live out the injunction to plant gardens from Jeremiah 29:5-7,\u201d says Gomes Jo\u00e3o de Miranda, project coordinator.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are encouraged by&nbsp;these&nbsp;projects that involve church members in the project implementation and include needy church members as part of the beneficiaries of the project,\u201d&nbsp;says&nbsp;Doug Graber Neufeld,&nbsp;Creation&nbsp;Care Working Group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"taxonomy-post_tag has-link-color wp-elements-4795dccc25dd561b10d5c166c095ced0 wp-block-post-terms has-text-color has-gray-color has-small-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/tag\/creation-care\/\" rel=\"tag\">creation care<\/a><span class=\"wp-block-post-terms__separator\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/tag\/earth-day\/\" rel=\"tag\">earth day<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>God created the world as an intricate web of relationships.
