{"id":124140,"date":"2026-02-23T20:32:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T20:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/?p=124140"},"modified":"2026-02-23T21:55:31","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T21:55:31","slug":"a-question-of-equality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/stories\/a-question-of-equality\/","title":{"rendered":"A question of equality\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Global Church Sharing Fund grants show tangible solidarity&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe one who had much did not have too much,&nbsp;and the one who had little did not have too little.\u201d\u2014<\/em>2\u202fCorinthians\u202f8:15&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe vision of&nbsp;sharing equally&nbsp;we read in&nbsp;2&nbsp;Corinthians 8:13-15&nbsp;is&nbsp;at the heart of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Deacon\u2019s Commission&nbsp;work,\u201d says Tigist Tesfaye, secretary of Mennonite World Conference\u2019s Deacons Commission.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/commissions\/deacons-commission\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"11430\">Deacons Commission<\/a> lives out solidarity through the Global Church Sharing Fund (Jubilee Account). These grants to MWC member churches&nbsp;are for&nbsp;projects that advance the life and mission of their churches.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/commissions\/deacons-commission\/global-church-sharing-fund\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"5631\">Global Church Sharing Fund<\/a> (Jubilee Account) grants have been awarded for the following purposes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Food relief for people displaced by violent conflict in DR Congo&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food relief and funds for infrastructure repairs related to flooding in Vietnam&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An inter-Mennonite gathering to commemorate the birth of Anabaptism in Peru&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A gathering of Anabaptist young adults in Indonesia&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translation of Anabaptist resources into local language in Brazil&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction of a church guesthouse in Ghana&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Member church initiatives&nbsp;eligible for the grants&nbsp;must&nbsp;follow the four pillars of MWC church life:&nbsp;fellowship, worship,&nbsp;service&nbsp;and witness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except in case of emergency response,&nbsp;at least 30% of&nbsp;the total project cost is borne by the recipient ministry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Global Church Sharing Fund&nbsp;started in 1997 and&nbsp;has become&nbsp;one of the most recognizable&nbsp;ways&nbsp;to show&nbsp;solidarity in the global Anabaptist family.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe take seriously the call from 2&nbsp;Corinthians 8&nbsp;\u2018your present abundance\u2019&nbsp;in one area would meet \u2018their need,\u2019 while their abundance&nbsp;will meet ours,\u201d&nbsp;says Henk&nbsp;Stenvers, MWC president (2022-2031) and past Deacon Commission secretary.&nbsp;\u201cGift sharing is a core component of God\u2019s kingdom&nbsp;and a way to seek equality in the 2 Corinthians 8 paradigm.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe clear biblical message\u00a0[is]\u00a0that all of God\u2019s creation is gifted, that all persons have a role to play and gifts to give to the whole body, the global church.\u00a0. .every part of the body \u2013 of the church, of creation \u2013 needs every other part,\u00a0\u201d\u00a0Pakisa\u00a0Tshimika\u00a0and Tim Lind wrote in their 2003 book <em>Sharing Gifts in the Global Family of Faith: One Church\u2019s Experiment<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-mennonite-world-conference wp-block-embed-mennonite-world-conference\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"ZGIafiobxr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/resources\/sharing-gifts-global-family-faith\/\">Sharing Gifts in the Global Family of Faith<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content lazyload\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Sharing Gifts in the Global Family of Faith&#8221; &#8212; Mennonite World Conference\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/resources\/sharing-gifts-global-family-faith\/embed\/#?secret=JC0984LJe3#?secret=ZGIafiobxr\" data-secret=\"ZGIafiobxr\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/resources\/sharing-gifts-global-family-faith\/\">Click here to read the book<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Another tangible way the Deacons Commission invites&nbsp;solidarity&nbsp;is&nbsp;through prayer. Every two months, the Deacons Commission sends a prayer letter highlighting&nbsp;joys&nbsp;and challenges of our global family.
