As vice president from 2009-2015 and <a href=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/en\/contact-us\/regional-representatives\/\">regional&nbsp;representatives<\/a>&nbsp;coordinator&nbsp;since&nbsp;2024, she has experience with the practice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consensus is a method of arriving at decisions unanimously or by carefully recording dissenting voices before moving ahead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConsensus does not mean uniformity. It means that every voice has been heard, every concern has been registered, and every member is willing to move ahead for the greater good even though the decision may not reflect their own preference.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe use consensus decision making in MWC because it is consistent with our values. It builds community&nbsp;as it&nbsp;provides a collaborative and harmonious context for making decisions,\u201d says C\u00e9sar Garc\u00eda, MWC general secretary.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>Consensus&nbsp;seeks&nbsp;to hear, understand and respect all concerns and points of view.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"947\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706-1024x947.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-122001 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706-1024x947.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706-300x277.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706-768x710.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706-1536x1420.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/202404IrmaSulistyorini20240408_214514-scaled-e1765386043706.jpg 1920w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/947;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Consensus&nbsp;seeks&nbsp;to hear, understand and respect all concerns and points of view.&nbsp;Making decisions with this method&nbsp;encourages consultation, exploration, questioning and prayerful reflection.&nbsp;It&nbsp;values and&nbsp;seeks&nbsp;to&nbsp;utilize&nbsp;the experience and perspective of all members.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This method calls for participation&nbsp;by all churches in shaping the decision.&nbsp;There is&nbsp;space to learn and even change course&nbsp;in the process of decision&nbsp;making.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsing a consensus&nbsp;decision-making process&nbsp;enables representatives to discern together the will of God (Ephesians 5:17) for the church and for MWC,\u201d&nbsp;says Henk&nbsp;Stenvers, MWC president.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In MWC\u2019s General Council and Executive Committee meetings, consensus taking is&nbsp;facilitated&nbsp;by three coloured cards: orange (yes), yellow (uncertain; have concerns or need clarity), blue (no\/stop).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If every card raised is&nbsp;<strong>orange<\/strong>, the decision is&nbsp;made&nbsp;and no further conversation is needed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there are one or more&nbsp;<strong>yellow<\/strong>&nbsp;cards raised, we halt and those who&nbsp;indicated&nbsp;reservations are asked to share their concerns.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A&nbsp;<strong>blue<\/strong>&nbsp;card&nbsp;indicates&nbsp;opposition to the proposal. If there is even one blue card raised, the motion does move&nbsp;not&nbsp;ahead to consensus as is. It means that more conversation and discernment are needed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLrO98PUzjOB13ilrCT53AI2BebENT2w2Z&amp;si=0Q6JkrMr_rQ9RHR1\">Watch&nbsp;short videos&nbsp;on&nbsp;consensus<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As MWC has used this method in various decision-making spaces, sometimes a member may raise a blue card; more&nbsp;frequently, members raise yellow cards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A yellow card in MWC is not understood to be divisive.
