And we\u2019ve become intimate friends,\u201d says Omondi Samson from Kenya as he takes a picture of his new \u201cmom and dad\u201d from the USA. They felt they need to know each other well at a closer level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Damaris Rickhaus from Switzerland was the only person in her group who attended each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t make friends in a half hour,\u201d she says. But \u201ceven in a short discussion, some people share their life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he didn\u2019t attend one session, Victor Kristijanto says his group missed him. \u201cAs we gather, we feel like a home,\u201d the Indonesian man says. \u201cWe can freely share like a family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-125678 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-1536x1028.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mwc-cmm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/friendship-1-2048x1371.jpg 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/201;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The program book provided questions to guide discussion; however no leaders were assigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omondi found it very interesting to discuss this way. \u201cOnce one is appointed,\u201d he says, \u201cthere is no space. Once everyone is a leader, you are free.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to participant demographics, most groups were comprised of at least 50 percent North Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rickhaus was hoping to meet people from all over the world but her group was mostly Canadians. Nevertheless, the discussion \u201copens your horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll churches have their own problems,\u201d says Kristijanto. \u201cWhen we have a friendship, we can share our burdens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants prayed for each other. Many groups exchanged contact information. In Canadian James Wittenberg\u2019s group, a man from Indonesia invited the group to visit his home for the 2021 MWC Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the group meetings were brief, the planning committee\u2019s intention to provide a space to share across cultures and practice community seems to have succeeded with many participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About the people in her friendship group, Ivonete Coimbra of Brazil says, \u201cNow, we are friends forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Karla Braun iseditor of <\/em>Courrier\/Correo\/Courier<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friendship groups at PA 2015 facilitate small group conversation By Karla Braun Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA \u2013 \u201cYou can witness young to very old people [talking with each other].
